Yahoo Search & your new-tab page
True Browser comes with Yahoo as its default search provider. Searches from the address bar and the search box on True’s new-tab page are routed through our search partner at truebrowser-org.s1search.co to Yahoo. Search results may include advertising. True may earn revenue from this search arrangement.
You can change your address-bar search provider in browser Settings > Search engine. The search box on True’s new-tab page uses Yahoo independently of that choice. Normal new tabs use search.truebrowser.org; Incognito and Guest landing pages are local browser pages. Your selected session-restore and startup options can affect what opens at launch.
Sponsored tabs
Sponsored tabs are enabled by default. When an installation is eligible and an offer is available, an interaction while browsing may open an advertiser’s offer in a new tab. These tabs are labelled “Sponsored by True.” Having the setting enabled does not guarantee that ads will appear. Sponsored tabs are disabled in Incognito, but can operate in Guest mode. They are also suppressed on True’s hosted new-tab page, search pages on truebrowser-org.s1search.co, and Yahoo results on search.yahoo.com.
Turn sponsored tabs off anytime
- Open True Browser’s Settings.
- Select System.
- Turn off “Show sponsored tabs to support environmental projects.”
Your choice applies to all profiles in that browser installation and stays off until you enable it again.
This switch controls True’s sponsored-tab feature. It does not remove advertising from Yahoo search results or other websites, change your search provider, or stop independent search, browser-settings, or reliability reporting.
Information used by the browser
When enabled and eligible, sponsored tabs use full page URLs, page titles, descriptions, and other page metadata from regular and Guest browsing to select offers. This feature does not collect or send Incognito page context or open sponsored tabs in Incognito. The search-page exclusions described above apply to the sponsored-tab feature, not to separate search reporting or requests to the sites themselves.
True also reports installation identifiers, search events, selected search engines, browser settings, and installation-option information. Regular and Guest search reports can include search terms. Dedicated Incognito search reports omit query text and destination URLs; they can still include event time, source, browsing mode, and installation/profile identifiers. Your search and routing providers still receive the query to return results. Incognito uses a local new-tab page and does not make browsing anonymous. Registration, settings, and reliability reporting can continue. Unchanged settings snapshots are not routinely resent once acknowledged; changes and failed deliveries can cause further uploads.
Automatic reliability reporting: True sends limited startup and tray diagnostic summaries after the first run of a release, approximately daily while running, and after certain failures. These include an installation identifier, browser and Windows versions, 32-bit or 64-bit architecture, memory and processor counts, installer-option flags, tray, window, and session state, and counts of idle-return decisions and activity blockers. These diagnostic summaries exclude browsing URLs, searches, page titles, usernames, and raw browser logs. There is no separate diagnostic setting; turning sponsored tabs off does not disable reliability reporting. See the Privacy Policy for details and retention.

Installation & background behavior
The installer’s Advanced Options let you choose whether to:
- Import bookmarks and browsing history from another browser.
- Open True when Windows starts.
- Run True in the background.
- Automatically check for updates.
These options are enabled by default on a fresh installation. Previously saved choices can be preserved during an upgrade. Review the options before completing installation.
The optional importer brings bookmarks and browsing history into True; it does not import passwords, cookies, or extensions. When enabled, Windows startup opens True when you sign in. Background operation can keep True running after its windows close and can reopen or bring a window forward when you unlock, resume, reconnect, or turn the display back on, or after an idle period. Unlocking is different from signing in: these return behaviors depend on True still running. Local checks for media, fullscreen activity, microphone use, browser capture, and supported controller input are intended to reduce interruptions during idle return. They inspect activity states rather than recording keystrokes, audio, or screen content, and may not recognize every activity.
Settings > System has separate controls: “Auto start True with Windows” disables automatic sign-in launch when turned off; “Continue running background apps when True is closed” lets True exit after its last regular browser window closes when turned off. The tray menu’s background item opens System settings. Turning off startup does not quit a running browser, and turning off background operation does not disable Windows startup. Use “Exit True” in the tray to quit the current process.
True may offer to pin the browser to your Windows taskbar. Pinning requires your choice and depends on Windows support. Features and availability can vary by version and installation.
Browsing with a greener purpose
Revenue from both Yahoo-powered search and sponsored new-tab ads helps support our tree-planting mission. We do not promise that a particular search, ad view, download, or period of use results in a specific number of trees or a particular environmental outcome. Our website’s forest imagery illustrates the mission and is not evidence of a specific planting project.
Uninstalling & getting in touch
You can remove True through Windows Settings > Apps. Follow our Windows uninstall guide for the steps. See the Terms of Service for the software license and use conditions.
